Title

KEN SORTAIS

Description

"By analogy, my experiences of working around stealth molding in the city stem from my practice and my experience of illegal graffiti. I act day and night. The target determines the form of the action, the game is strategic, I melt into the mass, cunning on the lookout, I disguise myself to better deceive, sharpen my distribution in case of unpleasant surprises. This working time, performative and theatrical, is the first step in the genesis of my works. The second step concerns the mutation of the material taken, in the space of the workshop. From experimentation to serendipity, I inflate, I stretch, I mold, I break and suspend, confront and divert the symbolic forms I have attributed to myself. To this process is added the video, painting and drawing that are occasionally grafted into my projects.
[...]
More than a sculptural turning point in my practice, 93 announces the use of fiction in my work, fueled by my research on the representation of the statuary in public space, my references to cinema and myths.
[...]
"Sculpt'airs" that have not finished evolving, like Apollo's group surrounded by its nymphs transformed into a fountain in the Antigone project, where the opposition of forms and forces is pushed to a certain paroxysm; have we ever seen a buoy spitting water?"
