Title

GUILHERME PETERS

Description

My practice is based on the premise that, in order to generate form, it is necessary to expend energy. My performances, films, videos, objects and installations invariably make visible the efforts necessary for their realization – whether they are identified as a sound wave, electrical currents or my own breath. Each Work works as an attempt to build its own metabolism feeding on references that, historically, carry the engine of change, the horizon of frustration – such as modern attempts to revolutionize art – and life triggered by social agitators, by vanguard artists or by dictators committed to the rise and decline of peoples. These references are subjected to entropic cycles of repetition, loss and transformation of symbolic values or belief. In some cases, these metabolisms operate in a catabolic logic: they consume themselves, self-destruct through internal circuits, or present themselves as attempts at questionable effectiveness that inevitably fail. Others operate in an anabolic logic, producing a charge of energy that expends and disperses as movement, force, sound, sweat and friction. – Guilherme Peters, 2021
